- Flash Fill column – separate last name and first name columns, combine them to make one column with last name, first name. Insert a column next to the two columns you wish to combine (Column C); type in cell C1 – Jones, Mary, go down to C2 and start typing Kell and excel suggests the text for you in the rest of the column. Hit enter to save.
2. Auto fit column width:
Highlight column(s) select Format (Cells portion of the ribbon) > AutoFit Column Width
3. Autofill a series:
Enter a value in D1, click on the small black box in corner of cell and drag downward. Once you are finished with the number of rows, click on the icon to open the menu of how you want the cells to populate, Copy Cells, Fill Series, etc.
